Partners in Prevention provides year-round youth recreation activities. Most recreational activities provide health benefits to young people, but these activities can also develop new friendships; create new interests and hobbies; develop leadership skills; and provide a positive, safe environment for children to have fun.
Research shows that youth involved in after-school activities and goal-oriented structured programs are less likely to engage in harmful activities such as drugs, violence and crime; and are more likely to develop conflict resolution skills and the ability to work positively with others. Furthermore, recent studies show that nearly one-fourth of children in the United States are obese. Physical activity for youth can help combat weight issues, diabetes, high blood pressure and risk of heart disease.
